  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 24 oz marinara sauce
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Boil salted water in a large pot; cook ziti until al dente according to package instructions. Drain, reserving ½ cup pasta water.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with minced garlic until no pink remains.
  4. Stir in marinara sauce, oregano, and basil; simmer for 5 minutes. Add reserved pasta water if needed.
  5. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the meat sauce, followed by half of the ziti, dollops of ricotta, and half of the mozzarella. Repeat layers.
  6. Top with Parmesan cheese; cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
