- 1 lb ground lamb or beef
- 1 large onion
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
- 2 cups milk
- 4 tbsp butter
- 4 tbsp flour
- Spices: cinnamon, nutmeg
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Slice eggplants into ½-inch rounds, sprinkle with salt, and let sweat for 30 minutes.
- Sauté chopped onion in olive oil until translucent (about 5 minutes).
- Add ground meat, minced garlic, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and pepper; cook until browned (about 8 minutes).
- For the béchamel: Melt butter in a saucepan, whisk in flour until smooth; gradually add milk while whisking until thickened (5-7 minutes).
- In a baking dish, layer eggplant slices, meat mixture, and béchamel sauce. Repeat layers.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake uncovered for 45 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
